Here are some of the blindfold images Year 12 photographers made yesterday. We used the iPads and the excellent ClassicSAMP app which is a digital version of a number of multi lens toy cameras. The students worked in pairs, one acting as a guide, the other with eyes closed or blindfolded. They moved around the classroom together and created images without knowing what the camera was looking at. The guides’ only responsibility was to make sure the photographer didn’t hurt themselves!

This experiment was an opportunity for the students to further consider the important role that chance plays in all photography. Our hope is that they will learn to embrace chance as a friend in the photographic process, thereby increasing their chances of experiencing happy accidents.
